Oh no! Howard’s being eaten

He’s not being dined on by Monte Python’s ready-to-burst Mr. Creosote or even Liverpool striker Claudio Suarez but Howard Webb is being devoured by our readers in our referee title race.
The former policeman is quickly closing ground on Chris Foy in our online poll for the EPL’s worst referee.
At last count Webb trailed Chris Foy by just 6 votes as the season nears its conclusion.
You will recall Foy accumulated a huge number of votes following his complete miss of Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero and his obvious stamp to the midsection of Chelsea midfielder David Luiz.
Although nothing is certain it could very well be Webb that goes into the books as the worst referee when the final votes are tabulated at the season’s end.
Webb won no fans from Manchester United supporters after sending off Red Devils midfielder Rafael for kicking out at Luiz in a heated conclusion to Sunday’s game.
Sir Alex Ferguson accused Luiz of acting like a “dying swan” to get his opponent sent off.
On a reverse television camera angle, the Chelsea defender was seen laughing about the incident at the same moment Webb was reaching for his pocket to send off Rafael.

Luiz had thrown a few hard shoulder charges and forearms at Manchester United players throughout the match but Webb failed to whistle them down. This eventually brought matters to the boiling point in the 89th minute of the match.

“He was smiling, it’s bad. What kind of professionalism is that?” Ferguson told England’s Daily Mail after the match. “…The referee hasn’t even seen it but he has gone with the fact that Luiz has rolled about on the floor and that has convinced him it was a red card.”

RedCardTheRef has received close to 750 votes in our poll but would really like to get more readers involved. Please share this link with any of your friends or social media contacts who have a beef to pick with an EPL referee.
